Submission for 2010 December Superhero of the Month [link]
Redesign Contest, Angel/Archangel
I did this piece in support of a new Comic Character Redesign website, SuperherooftheMonth.
Though I did't manage to win the popularity poll, I manage to find a spot as one of the finalist.
Doing a redesign of Marvel X-men's Angel/Archangel is not as hard as other prominent iconic Characters like Captain America. There is not much of a limitation to how he should look like. Other then he need to have a pair of wings, the rest of the design element is rather boundless. There had been many official designs for Warren. However other than the Archangel design that is rather prominent the rest are rather not as memorable.
The only issue is not to make Angel look like DC's Hawkman. And at one glance people should still recognise that he is Angel/Archangel from the X-men. Therefore I retained the color scheme of his costume and played around with his costume making it more relevant to the real life. Imagine a grown man flying around in tights...
Being a Horseman of Death of Apocalypse, I gave him a hood to make him look more like the image of death that we are so accustom to seeing.
The hooded trench works specially when he is on the run and he doesn't want to be seen by others
Initially did thought of giving Warren a scythe but it turned out rather bulky and not a sleek. Therefore I ditched the idea and gave him an organic metal sword that he took from his metalic wing.
Almost gave Warren a skull mask, but put it aside as I want to potray the remnants humanity in him. However I retained the skeleton inspired armour all over him to reflect that he had being a horsemen of Death.
The organic metal wing and the feather wing is a sign of Warren's constant internal conflict between good and evil.

One reason why I do not read Marvel anymore, is their messing up their characters, as well as the "kill-em-all" mentality.
Angel is now defined as a member of the winged men offshoot of the Inhumans. Likewise, Nightcrawler was re-defined as a member of a demonic race of the humans. This messup took place long after I ditched Marvel, but ads and now the wiki keep reminding me and strengthening my decision to ditch Marvel, DC and now even Archie.
